What is the debt snowball method?

List every debt smallest balance to largest. Pay the minimum on all of them, and throw every extra dollar at the smallest one. When it's paid off, roll its whole payment into the next-smallest. Each debt falls faster than the last — and the quick early wins keep you motivated.

    Snowball vs. avalanche?

Avalanche (highest APR first) saves slightly more interest mathematically. Snowball (smallest balance first) pays off debts faster one-by-one, so most people actually stick with it. This calculator uses the snowball order.
